Exciting News!
Dear Friends!
Volunteer

We are thrilled to announce that our 2006/2007 staff visit to Sudan was a huge success! During this visit, Sudan-Reach director, Loloa Ibrahim, and a team of dedicated volunteers implemented programs for women, met with Darfurian refugees, and provided direct aid and relief services to residents in camps and homes in Khartoum and the surrounding cities-- with specific emphasis on impovershed towns such as Haj Yousef, Hai Almustafa, Doroshab, and parts of Bahri and Omdurman.

This year we launched a massive effort as part of our Women's Self-sufficiency Program, to assist women in starting small, home-based enterprises to generate income. Some of these projects included tailoring businesses, catering, grinding mills, or small-scale poultry farms.

Girls
This year, Sudan-Reach sponsored the education of Sudanese girls who have been removed from school for failure to pay tuition fees. Thousands of Sudanese families withdraw their daughters from schools due to their inability to pay the mandatory school fees required to take examinations and complete the school year.

Our Women's Education Initiative raises funds for girl's education in Sudan. This project provides educational materials and equipment to schools around the country. The program also funds the education of select girls. The Women's Education Initiative needs your support. Learn more about this project and find out how you can help us make education a reality for all Sudanese girls.

aid
In January, 2007 Sudan-Reach distributed essential products such as oil, soap, flour, tea, powdered milk, rice, and granulated sugar to hundreds of poor families. The items were shipped and distributed in bulk by dedicated Sudan-Reach volunteers to refugees, and women who were unemployed, widowed, or without income.

screening
Thank you to our friends and supporters for joining us on December 15th for a screening of Darfur Diaries at the Democracy Center in Cambridge. The screening drew in a full house with a varied audience of activists, students, lawyers, teachers, friends and members of the community. Sudan-Reach is grateful for this generous show of support and concern for the people of Darfur. All of the proceeds from this event have been donated to the Darfur Education Project - a project funded by the makers of the film.
Our Website has a new look! Please be sure to visit the site, learn more about our recent work in Sudan, and while you are there don't forget to browse through our photo album!

Sudan-Reach would like to thank you for your continued support. Our work would not be possible without your donations. We look forward to serving and advocating for Sudanese women again this year!

Sincerely,

Sudan-Reach Staff
